National Teacher Appreciation Day – May 8
Scott County School District 2 is pleased to announce that Tuesday, May 8, 2012, is National Teacher Day, “Thank a teacher for making public schools great!” "Few other professionals touch as many people as teachers," notes Dr. Philip Deardorff, Superintendent of Scott County School District 2. "National Teacher Day is a good time to thank educators for the contributions they make to our community each and every day. Our teachers are working hard to make great public schools for every student. Public schools are at the heart of every community and are often what identifies local communities. When there are problems, we address them. When there are great things happening, we share them.”
“We all have to work together to make our schools even better, that means everyone in the community - parents, business owners, retirees, other workers, local government, and our most important stakeholder, our students. Community involvement brings learning to life,” stated Dr. Deardorff. “This is an opportunity for all of us to reach out to each other. I ask the community to learn about how we advocate for high standards for students, fair and meaningful evaluations of their work, and resources that go directly to the classroom. Even better than an apple or a thank you card is a community’s active support of our teachers’ efforts to teach and care for the community’s students.”
Scott County School District 2 would like to publicly thank all of our educators for their hard work in making Scott County School District 2 a great place to learn for all the students of our district. |

National School Nurse Day
Wednesday, May 9, 2012
The National Association of School Nurses, Inc. (NASN) has chosen May 9, 2012 as National School Nurse Day. National School Nurse Day falls on the Wednesday during National Nurses Week, May 6 – 12, ending on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing.
National School Nurse Day was established in 1972 to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting. Today, school nursing is recognized as a specialized practice that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To this end, over 76,000 school nurses across the country promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student/family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning.
Scott County School District 2 Superintendent Dr. Philip Deardorff encourages everyone to take a moment to thank our school nurses for all they do for our students and staff as we celebrate this important day.

SchoolReach
|
| |
|
| |
Dear Parents,
Scott County School District 2 officials send out "School Reach" calls to notify parents of emergency situations. Recently, SCSD2 officials sent out School Reach calls to parents concerning the storms on Friday, March 2nd.
The secretaries in the schools are experiencing issues with our telephone lines being inundated with calls from parents who see the school number on their Caller ID and call our schools or the Central Office to find out why they were called rather than listen to the message. We are asking parents to please listen to the message and refrain from calling the school offices. School officials need to keep the lines open for communication purposes. Our first priority is to keep our students and staff safe and in order to do that we need your help.
Thanks for your Trust!
Dr. Phil Deardorff
