Early Entrance Appeal: Kindergarten

Kindergarten Early Entrance Appeal

If your child will be age five (5) on or before October 1, access the Kindergarten registration page.

If not, continue below:

Each child of legal settlement shall be eligible for Kindergarten providing that s/he has attained the age of five (5) on or before October 1st. This requirement also shall apply to children who transfer into the School Corporation and who may have attended private or public kindergarten in another locality.

Children of legal settlement who have not attained the age of five (5) by October 1st shall not be eligible for entrance into the kindergarten program unless an appeal is submitted, screening of the child is completed, and early entrance is granted.

Such an appeal is to be submitted to the Superintendent’s Office using the approved form.

Prior to making any decision on early entrance, the child will participate in a screening program which is based on the following criteria:

A. Superior ratings on individual intellectual measures and no significant deviation in specific cognitive or perceptual areas.
B. Social maturity at least equal to the child's advanced mental status and fifth (or sixth) year birth date.
C. Sound and well-developed personality as judged by the examiner and from case history material obtained from the parent.
D. Physical characteristics not likely to limit the child's participation in the program. Particular attention is directed to eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.

The school district will review submitted forms and schedule a screening of the child and interview with the parent(s) between May 1 and August 1 prior to the start of the school year.
