FERPA annual notice

This notice is provided annually to parents and eligible students as required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g.

Right to inspect education records

Parents and eligible students have the right to inspect and review the student's education records maintained by Scott County School District 2 within 45 days after a request is made. To request access, contact your school's principal or the district office in writing.

Right to request amendment of records

Parents and eligible students may request that the district correct records believed to be inaccurate or misleading. Submit a written request to the principal identifying the record to be changed and the reason it should be changed.

Right to consent to disclosures

Generally, the district must have written permission before releasing personally identifiable information from a student's education record. Exceptions exist for school officials with a legitimate educational interest, transfers to other schools, and legally required disclosures.

Directory information

SCSD2 designates the following as "directory information": student name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, dates of attendance, degrees and awards, and most recent previous school attended. Parents have the right to opt out of directory information disclosure by contacting the district office in writing by September 15 of each school year.

Right to file a complaint

Parents and eligible students have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning failures by SCSD2 to comply with FERPA.
