CIPA compliance

Internet safety policy

This policy has been adopted by Scott County School District 2 in compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), 47 U.S.C. § 254(h).

Technology protection measures

SCSD2 uses filtering technology on all devices and networks used by students to block or filter access to visual depictions that are obscene, contain child pornography, or are harmful to minors. These measures are active during any school-supervised use of the internet.

Monitoring student internet activity

The district monitors the online activities of students when using district technology and networks. Monitoring is done to enforce this policy and to protect student safety.

Unauthorized disclosure of personal information

Students are prohibited from disclosing, using, or disseminating personal identification information about themselves or other students when using electronic communications. Staff members are required to educate students about the dangers of sharing personal information online.

Cyberbullying awareness and education

SCSD2 includes education about cyberbullying — including its nature and harms — in its curriculum. Students are encouraged to report cyberbullying to a trusted adult. The anonymous bullying hotline is available at (812) 505-8098 (voicemail and text) or speakup@scsd2.k12.in.us.

Hacking and unlawful activities

Students are prohibited from engaging in unauthorized access, hacking, or any unlawful activities online while using district technology or networks. Violations may result in disciplinary action and may be referred to law enforcement.

Social media and external sites

Links from SCSD2 websites to external or social media sites are provided for informational purposes. The district is not responsible for the content of external sites. Parents and students should be aware that external sites are governed by their own terms and policies.

Policy availability

This Internet Safety Policy was adopted following a public notice and hearing as required by CIPA. Copies are available at the district office and on this website. The policy is reviewed annually.
